The creators behind the Cobra Kai television series are contemplating a new project focusing on Mr. Miyagi. Although Cobra Kai is nearing its conclusion, creators Hayden Schlossberg, Josh Heald, and Jon Hurwitz appear not yet ready to depart from the universe of karate.
The Hollywood Reporter recently discussed with the trio the potential for more spinoffs in the future. Schlossberg shared that they constantly think about spinoffs within the Cobra Kai universe. He noted that Cobra Kai itself is essentially a spinoff of The Karate Kid, highlighting how they took the antagonist from the original film and built an entirely new storyline around him. This same approach, according to Schlossberg, could be applied to any of the show's characters. As they wrap up the existing arcs, they consider both the characters' futures and their pasts. This reflective process influenced the inclusion of the Miyagi box storyline this season, which was designed to raise intriguing questions about Mr. Miyagi's life, a concept they have been eager to explore for some time.
When asked specifically about the possibility of a series focused on Mr. Miyagi, Schlossberg expressed a strong desire to pursue that direction and mentioned ongoing discussions about it.
What are your thoughts on the idea of a Mr. Miyagi prequel series?
